I always get rather excited when I find little ways to save a few dollars here and there. After finding these savings I like to share my little hidden gems with other people. In most cases, I have found that most people haven't found these little gems either.
Now for some, they feel they have better things to do with their time or their time is more valuable to spend doing some of the things to save a few dollars. Understandable!!
But if you are like me and you like small instant gratification, then in these weekly blogs I will teach you a few of the ways I have saved or earned a few dollars here and there.
So for blog #2 we are going to talk about flying through Southwest Airlines. Now most experienced travelers may already know all the ends and outs of how to save when flying. But if you are like me and don't fly all that often, then I hope you learn something from this blog.
I had been waiting to book our tickets for our upcoming trip to Florida and watched the ticket prices slowly rise. I book when I thought the price shown was going to be the best price I would find. Earlier this week, I take a look at the prices and to my surprise the ticket price had dropped by half. I have spoken to so many people who have been flying for years and had no clue that through Southwest you can rebook your flight for a cheaper price and receive a travel credit. Even if it is the same exact flight you already have booked.
I signed into my Southwest Airlines account and went to my upcoming trips. I found the flight that now has the lower ticket price and clicked on the change option.

You will click the flight shown then click continue.
Then the flight options will be listed as you had on the flight you are trying to change. If you want the same exact flight then you will just click on the find flights options.
If you are needing to change days or airports you will need to change the information listed then click on the find flight option.
You will need to select the flight you want to switch to. The next screen will show how much of a credit you will receive. A few more clicks of continue will book the new flight.
You will need to keep the conformation of the new flight. When you are ready to book your next flight within year of the original flight you will use that conformation code to retrieve your saved travel funds.
I was able to book a flight today and used my travel funds from a flight I rebooked and paid nothing. Southwest doesn't give refunds for cancellations or price adjustments but if you plan on flying sometime within the year then this option works out well. For me personally, I am now able to fly two separate occasions for the price I paid for one set of tickets. I'll take that as a win.
