CBD and Josie week 4

We have reached the four week mark of testing CBD oil out on our 7 year old lab Josie.  I will start this blog by saying I am so glad we decided to try this treatment. I feel like we enabled our dog to continue doing the things we think brings her the most joy.

What are those things?

Long walks  on conservation land. Before the treatment, we would have passed on taking her mushroom hunting through the wooded areas. The physical demands of navigation through the terrain and length of activity would have been too much for her. Seriously, she would have gotten tired and quit. I mean sit down and quit. We took her walking and mushroom hunting both days this weekend.

We would have never dreamed of asking this of her a month ago. Instead she would have been left at home to sleep her day away. The CBD oil treatment has given her freedom again. She was always a dog we took everywhere with us. It broke my heart when we had to start leaving her at home.  We would tell ourselves we were doing what was best for her.

Now she is getting excerise, out of the prison of our home, with us, and to be a dog. There is no happier dog in my opinion, than one out running free and smelling whatever nature holds. It feels so good to be able to see her in her element again.

Is she tired and sore? After spending two days running and smelling in the woods for several hours both days this weekend, yes she is sore.  But unlike previous months even though she is sore and moving slower tonight, Josie is substantially more mobile than before. I think back to when she would hardly move the rest of the day into the following day. Like laying around like a statue, not moving.

We are not naive in the fact she is not a young pup anymore. Even though the CBD oil is helping, we will continue to monitor and limit her activities when we think she is close to her maximum limitations.

We will be out of our first bottle within the next week. We are scrathing our heads on how we currently have any left. The bottle shown should have only lasted four weeks but we are thinking it may last five weeks.

Looking back, I wish we would have started treatment sooner. Honestly it feels like she is feeling her best again. Labs are born to run, swim, and hunt. The oil has helped her gain the ability to do these things she loves again.

I will continue to update as we get further into the time of using the oil.  My hope is that after the first bottle we continue to see significant changes in her.

CBD Oil and Josie week 10

Well, it's been a while since I wrote an update. In the beginning the changes were fast and easily noticeable. I think we have now reached our plateau. It would be hard to keep writing weekly updates as there aren't many changes from week to week now. I may continue with monthly updates instead.  Labs are prone to bad hips and lose some of their mobility as they age. I watched the loss with a previous lab we owned and eventually he had to be put down. He was 16 years old but his mind was still viable. Putting a dog down who stills understands what you are saying but lacks the ability to even stand anymore is one of the most heartbreaking things I have ever done. Experience is key in life! After we went through it, we made a decision to do the things needed to alivaite some of that pain and suffering for our next dog. No matter the cost! I remind myself, I went and chose Josie, she didn't come pick me out. I owe her the best life I am able to emotionally,  physic

My favorite and least favorite US destinations: Yellowstone National Park

So I have been following where my blog is usually read and surprisingly there are several readers in other countries. So I thought I would put together a list of my favorite and least favorite US destinations I have traveled to. I will split this into a several parts, because frankly I have a lot to say. I have traveled a great deal in my life and feel like I have good insight to share. My family is huge traveling advocates. I could stand on my soap box and tell you all the reasons you need to travel, but if you are reading this I am going to assume you already unstand the value of traveling. Take the trip! So my go to first suggestion to anyone and everyone who asks where I suggest is always and will always be a national park. This one is almost too difficult to include in this list because there are sixty-three of them. Now I haven't been to all of them but the ones I have been to have all been mind blowing and beautiful in their own ways. When in doubt, just visit a

Saving Sunday #1

I always get rather excited when I find little ways to save a few dollars here and there. After finding these savings I like to share my little hidden gems with other people. In most cases, I have found that most people haven't found these little gems either. Now for some, they feel they have better things to do with their time or their time is more valuable to spend doing some of the things to save a few dollars. Understandable!! But if you are like me and you like small instant gratification, then in these weekly blogs I will teach you a few of the ways I have saved or earned a few dollars here and there. So to start let's talk about an easy one, Fetch Rewards. So with Fetch Rewards all you do is after you go to the grocery store you simple use the app on your phone and snap a picture of the receipt and upload it. To begin you will need to build a profile. If you want some bonus points for yourself and me, feel free to use my code when signing up. All of thes

Scout's passing, my first heartbreak.

Three years ago my son came back from his freshman year of college and decided he wanted to take a different career path other than college.  After being home a month he decided he was ready to get his own dog. We had a 5 year old lab and didn't think we wanted another dog in the home. We tried and tried to talk my son out of getting a dog. My son is kind of impulsive, does things, and never really thinks anything through. He went one afternoon and picked out a 10 week old lab that some people had leftover from a litter. Since he was already 10 weeks old, they had dropped the price dramatically to just $125 for a full yellow lab. June 2018 Scout became a part of our family whether my husband or I were ready. It is hard not to love a puppy but we both knew the struggles coming with training, house breaking, and chewing.  My son being a 19 year old who thought he knew everything quickly realized how little he knew and how stubborn Scout could be. I had never seen a dog dr

CBD a year later

So here we are almost a year later, how is the CBD treatments going? I updated a previous blog with updated information.  After a year most thoughts I had a year ago are still the same.  Remember these feelings I posted months back? Labs are prone to bad hips and lose some of their mobility as they age. I watched the loss with a previous lab we owned and eventually he had to be put down. He was 16 years old but his mind was still viable. Putting a dog down who stills understands what you are saying but lacks the ability to even stand anymore is one of the most heartbreaking things I have ever done. Experience is key in life! I remind myself, I went and chose Josie, she didn't come pick me out. I owe her the best life I am able to emotionally,  physically, and financially give her.  Yes still strongly feel the same way. My favorite and least favorite US destinations: Hershey, PA

Hershey, PA sounds like the place should be as magically as Disney World right? This is the place Milton Hershey invented what we know today we Hershey chocolate. I had envisioned a magically town that would draw millions of visitors a year.  The town: When you first pull I to town there is a cute welcoming sign with chocolate candy bar characters, misleading you to think the rest of the town is decorated much like the sign. There are light poles that have what resemble Hershey Kisses on the top. Again misleading because these two things are about the only things that give any indication that you are in Hershey, PA. If you choose not to stay at the Hershey hotel and pay a small fortune to do so, then you will most likely be driving 10-20 minutes in and out of town to stay at another hotel. We stayed at a Holiday Inn in a neighboring community and had everyone in our dance studio's credit card information stolen and used fraudulently the same day as we checked in. Most o
